I'm not sure just what she is. I've been told though, that she looks to be a Rat Terrier.
She's not a big dog (maybe 2' long, maybe about a foot and a half or so tall, slick fur, slightly large pointy ears and a Chocolate brown color). Anyway, this dog found a snake in my back yard a few days ago. Not just ANY snake either, but a Copperhead! I heard her raising all kinds of hell out there, I looked and saw that she was really going after something on the ground and thought it just might be a snake (we live with wooded area behind us). I grabbed my shovel as I went out there and sure enough, she had cornered a Copperhead and he was sure trying to get away from my dog (Cocoa)! To late, I killed it and tossed it over the back fence. Then, just yesterday, Karla and I were getting in the van to leave and Cocoa was out back again and started raising hell again. I told Karla that I had better go check it out and grabbed my shovel as I went out there and sure enough, she had cornered another one in a different part of the yard. I didn't see it at first because there is this large bush right there and there were some leaves over part of the base of the bush and the snake (another Copperhead) had gotten itself covered by the leaves, trying to avoid Cocoa. But, it didn't work, she kept after it and I saw the leaves move some and used the shovel to pull some of the leaves away, uncovering part of the snake. I proceeded to kill the Copperhead and then tried to use the shovel to drag it it. But, Cocoa was trying to get it out the other side and I had a time trying to get that snake away from her. I think she wanted to take care of it herself.

Anyway, I got it out and away from her and tossed it over the back fence. Both of those snakes were about an inch or so in diameter and about 3' or so long. Soon as I can, I'll get some shots of Cocoa, so you all can see my Little Snake Hater.

Never had a clue that she so relentless about going after a snake like that. Makes me glad I've got her around.

Funny thing is, a friend of ours had found Cocoa and the other dog (Hershey) we used to have before if died (right after Brenda) and if it had been up to ME, I'd have left them there with our friend. I really had no interest in the two dogs. Just didn't seem the type I wanted, that's all. So, we took them in, then after a bit, Brenda passed away. Then, about a week or so later, I came home and found Hershey dead in the back yard. He had gotten under a rake type thing that you pull behind a riding mower and had gotten one of the tines stuck through his throat somehow. So shocking to find him like that. Not too long after we had gotten them, Hershey got bitten by a small Copperhead out in the back yard and he had to go to the vet for a shot and some meds, which fixed him up over time. Makes me wonder if that's why Cocoa has such a vengence for those snakes.
