camshafts are camshafts.....right?
« on: April 27, 2010, 12:49:20 PM »
ok.  working on my baby.  got the parts motor tore down for the valves and cam sprocket...decided to have a look at the cam.   MY CAMSHAFt out of my motor is marked R10 and measure out at intake lift .295 inch and exhaust lift.280 inch all the way across the cam...so pretty much no wear.  the parts motor cam is marked R14 and measure out at .297 inch intake lift and .280 inch exhaust lift....pretty much the same across it...shows minimal wear.  Anyone know what year approx this 2cd cam is?  mine is a 1974...as that is the motor it came out of and went back into.  can i safely run this 2cd cam?  thanks.

I have been told a long time ago that those are casting marks for the same grind. If a series of HONDA shops reported a cam problem with the same cast-numbers, they would only have to recall the bikes with those cams to solve a reliablility issue...........Sounds good to me!

Its recommended to keep the original parts together. When assembling the motor, be sure to put the rockers back in the same positions.  If one of the cams shows some wear, I would also examine the rocker pad. If you have to mix parts from the two motors, only use the 'good' parts.
