Using airbox for storage?
« on: April 20, 2010, 05:12:28 AM »
Since I'm probably going to end up running pods on my CB500 (I know, I know....), I was thinking about using the airbox as a storage area. I'd have to seal up a couple of openings, but it could be done.
Or does that kinda defeat the whole " lose parts, lose weight" aspect of it all?

   :D      you down with A.D.D.?

I say if you need/want to carry the extra tools, why not?  If you're going for speed records you can take them out.

It is a proven fact that modifying a SOHC Honda in any way will bring on the apocalypse.

I have this done on my bike 550, it works wonderfully, the equivalent of having a big trunk for a motorcycle, that airbox is DEEP. I usually keep my gloves in there, or my sunglasses if I ride at night in case I stay out. The other day I put my half a sandwich from the place we ate at in there to take it home haha. I sealed mine up with some of that metal backed duct tape, it has held for a long time, everything stays dry.

As purely a 750 guy I was amazed at the size of the 500/550 airbox the first time I saw one. Just be sure to buy pods that will fit, it's a little cramped on those bikes but there are pods that fit well just check the FAQ or run a search.

I do precisely this and I keep my registration/insurance papers, a flashlight, and a rag for wiping the morning dew from the seat/gauges.  There's still more room, but I don't have anything else to store at the moment.

That's a fantastic idea.  If I were running pods, I'd consider doing that myself.

The CB 750 boxes hung in a tree, make good bird condos!

They even have upstairs and downstairs...........................

A few years ago I bolted in an old coffee tin which is used for tools and my scottoiler bolts onto it as well.  It's been a useful storage area and I wouldn't go back to an airbox even if I found one cheaply.
