Why is rattle can black never actually black?

Yep, spraymax 2k.

I found some other aerosol paint choices, bill, will be seeing how hey work out. Nex job is a flat red with white pinstriping, we'll see how it coms out.
What should I call it, bill? The Spray Can Alley Paint Shop?

maybe you picked up the cans with the color "almost black" or "rattlecan black"?!?
easy to miss as they are right next to the "actually black" and "really F*&!#ng black"  cans

It's the RE "Nighthawk Black". I've noticed that all blacks in a can are either very dark brown or very dark blue. Just kinda weird.

 So the SprayMax is just a urethane clear? You use it over any "regular" spray can base color?
 Or are you ordering a base color from them, too?

When I worked at the wheel shop we had two shades of black. One was more blue and one was more brown. We had to mix them 50/50 to get a straight black color.

To expand, we bought the RE paint because they assured us the spraymax would sit well on top of it.
Dunno how well it will stick to krylon, etc. Not saying it wont, but just sayin.
Have to say that the high-build primer we got fromt hem was pretty amazing. There's some black primer from Sherwin Williams here in town that I like better, both for coverage, and ofr it's seeming ability to stick to anything, but the stuff from RE was not bad.

Yeah, I figured as much. WHy the hell don't they just mix the two?

I don't really know, though if you did a bunch of light coats of the blue and brown at the same time it might turn out better? Maybe experiment.

Well, like I said, I'm moving to a different paint system, so I can ask my paint guys for both their blue and brown blacks, do a solid brown, then do a semi-glaze blue over it which will prolly fix the issue.

Make a deal kind of like the carb rack that holds two cans of paint and pushes on the nozzels at the same pressure and aim them so they share a cone. Couldn't be that hard, could it?

OK, I'll do it. Just buy the gloss from Sherwin Williams and reimburse me for the reducer and hardener.

You certainly have more skill and patience than I will ever have.  My plan is to do the base + any airbrushed details and then take it to the pros for clear-coat.
