300 pipes
« on: January 25, 2006, 04:29:25 PM »
I note this guy says the HM300 pipes are original on this K0 on Ebay.

I am on my 3rd set of pipes.  Is it really possible for pipes to last 35
years and 22 thousand miles..and look new?  Seems like a stretch to me. :o

IIRC, the 300 pipes are glasspacks, so maybe the pipes are good, but the baffles are burned out?

On a related note, once the glass baffling burns out in the pipes, how much of an operation is it to re pack it?

ETA:

That bike is in Dallas, right near me.  If I had the money, I'd walk over and buy it and worry about stuff like that later.  Seriously, why is it that there are NEVER bikes available near me, then one I want (but can't afford) pops up right next door?

OK, I want a K0 real bad, but that's ridiculous.  I'd go $12,500 tops.

I really wish I had a time machine.  $1400 new or thereabouts. >:( :-[

The HM300 pipes on my K1 are the original, according to the first owner, and while not perfect are in excellent condition cosmetically.  The baffles were removed long ago, and pretty much the only damage is where battery acid leaked onto the top left pipe.  I think a lot of it has to do with where the bike lives.  My bike has been in Denver almost all of its life, nice dry climate.  Pipes in more moist climates tend not to last as long.

...........which brings up another point.  If the battery overflow line
is routed away and below the pipe, is it still possible to get the etching?

The reason I ask is a lot of them have the stains.....including my first set
and I thought I had routed the vent below the pipes.  Blowback or something?

hmmmmmmmmm. ???
