Tank decal advice
« on: December 30, 2014, 02:06:09 PM »
I bought these from cycle City for my K1 tank. I assumed they were slide of type but seem to be actual stickers?
Has anyone used these and is soapy water the way to go?
They also seem very thick to make a smooth tank with?
Any advice appreciated as this is my last thing to go!!!!

Do you plan on clear coating the tank? If so use lightly soapy water. Once positioned correctly use a sticker/vinyl applicator to squeeze out the air bubbles. Let the tank set for a couple of days before clear coating to make sure everything is dry.

Used the same stickers as yours on my '71 and cleared with poly urethane.

+1 on what Mini Mo is saying.  I would wait a full week before clear.  Get a glass brake from a vinyl sign shop or off internet to get water bubbles out of decal as well.

What the heck is a Glass Brake Tool???
I googled it and found great things for breaking glass only: http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=Glass+brake/tool&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

I've just installed those on the tanks, period. I don't usually clear-coat the tanks, on the bikes I've built. The clear coat (at least here in CO) gets eaten by the sun pretty quickly.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Have you tried the fuel proof 2K clear coat yet? It also resists ozone damage really well.

Here is a link.  Guess the proper web search term is Vinyl Squeegee

It helps get the bubble out without ripping the decal.  A sowing needle helps as well to pop small water bubbles.  Start from inside out to avoid trapping water.

Soapy water allows the decal to float while you squeegee the bubbles out

The strips of K0 and K1 are painted, not adhesive
