Check out some of the paint jobs Carpy has on His Dunstall seats, A little shine and some pin striping might be all you'd need.
I'd be keeping it if it's comfortable and has good positioning.

I haven't upholstered it yet, so I haven't really sat on it because there's no "floorpan" and I don't want to bend it.  I don't have the ability to weld aluminum so I don't want to screw with it unless I'm %2,000 sure I'm keeping it.

I'm certain I could sell it on ebay or here and make as much, or close to what I paid for it.

Really, I think it comes down to the fact that you're not happy with it...no matter what anybody else in here might do with it if it were theirs, you're the one who has to live with it.  I'm sure you could make it work, but you're starting from a point of, "Eeeeh, it's really not what I wanted."  That's probably never going to change.

If you're cool with selling it for (maybe) a loss and finding something else that you'll be happier with from the get-go, I say go for it.

if you haven't already modified it maybe you can return it
Funny thing about regret is...... its better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done.
