Photographs of a stock cb500
« on: March 06, 2010, 05:18:21 AM »
Could someone post a photograph of what the electric panel is supposed to look like on a stock 73 cb500. Other closeups of the details of this bike would also be helpful such as brake linkage setup and wire and cable routing etc. I would like to get an idea of what things are supposed to look like so I can tell how far off this thing has been changed over the years. Thanks for any help in this area. Jordan

Jordan.

Tell me which bits you need photographed and I'll go out and take hi-res (2Mb) pics for you.

I have found quite a few photos but a closeup of the electrics ie. solinoid, rectifyer plugs and wiring routing etc. would be helpful, mine was completely dismantled so I have no reference point to reconstruct it.

Good timing as I have a similar question. Here is a picture of my 1973 cb500. Front and back. I pulled it to clean it and also to solve my bikes inability to charge the battery (common problem I gather-- came with the bike when I bought it) My question is why is there a connector running towards the blinker that doesn't connect to anything? Is this correct?

Also, I know there are a lot of posts regarding replacement of rectifier and regulator and that the culprit is ususally the rectifier but I haven't really seen a definitive review of replacing both with a solid state like sold by Oregon Motorcyle supply and a host of other places. Good idea? Fix all?

Hope the pics help.

Herman

Some indicator relays have three connections. Most have two.

I think #3 was just an earth anyway...

The long, thin 8 prong connector on the top is missing from my CB500. What is/was it's original function?

I think that is your main wiring harness that goes out to all the stuff like lights and switches the middle looks like the rectifier plug and the bottom one does all the charging and ignition stuff Although I am probably talking thru my hat as my short term memory is shot, it was only a month ago I was messing with this electric stuff and put it away frustrated.
