CBR600 swingarm, 78 550
« on: April 06, 2010, 09:27:44 pm »
I was going to put this on my race bike but all of those in the know seem to say it wouldn't be conducive to the handling.  So I'm mocking it up on this frame and I'll add it to my street bike later.

There's a little bit of side play, but it's very close.  A couple small spacers should do the trick.  and it'll need a bolt of a slightly different diameter.  To fit the arm correctly, it needs a 17mm diameter bolt, but the holes in the frame are meant for one a tad over 14mm.  The CBR bolt is also too short.  I'm thinking I'll need to get a bolt made and then ream the holes in my other frame to fit.

Why not?

You will have a longer wheel base.....make it more stable going straight ahead, but won't turn as sharp.  Might be able to lower the nose a tad to make up for it with crisper turn in, though.

Maybe so, but I'm looking forward to my first season of racing and I want this bike to be as reliable as possible.  I don't want to have to do any headscratching about the bike's setup.  I just want to learn how to read the track and corner better without wondering if my suspension is outta whack.

Do you see any way of using the monoshock on this setup? Was thinking of doing this, and thought of fabbing a mount on the forward part of the triangle might work.

How much longer is it than the stock swingarm? Looks to be quite a bit longer. I like the ability to have a fatter rear tire, though. :D

About 2.5" if I remember correctly.  Measured from the center of each arm's adjustment range to the swingarm pivot.

ok here`s what you do.if your bike is like my 750.the stock swingarm bolt is 15mm and the cbr uses a 17mm bolt.have a machinist make you bushings for the swingarm that have a 15mm i.d. that way you can use your stock bolt.you may have issues with your shocks lining up correctly,i did and thats why im not using the 600 arm.im not ready at this time to fight the shock problem.i really would like to use the 600 arm especially since its about 3 inches longer than my stock arm.good luck
