For many many years, it was thought to be a rumour because modern eyes couldn't really tell if the original photos were just artist concepts.  Recently found in boxes.  Originally, it was so innovative that even BMW deemed it too expensive to produce. 
Must have been a Ton-O-Money if BMW thought that...

There's only the one, so no value can be known.  It would be interesting to see what it got at auction, though.

I've seen digital versions of the originals.... This restoration looks very very nice.

I'd expect around 100mil if it were me at auction. Priceless indeed.

def. a cool bike indeed!  is that a H pattern shifter i see on the right side of the "dash"???  if bimmer says it's expensive, it MUST be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
