TT's Point Plate Adjustment FAQ--Question?
« on: April 22, 2010, 06:21:45 PM »
My point plate has run out of adjustment for timing purposes. Working on a '75 750K. The biggest feeler gauge I can place between the plate and the fastening posts outside "ears" is just .005.  Could that even be close to enough to make up for the lack of adjustment in the slots on the plate? When trying to time 1/4 with a timing light I can't get within 1/4 to 3/8" of the F mark. And those plugs are sooty.

And if .005 won't make up the difference, can the slots in the timing plate be elongated to get more adjustment? The plate need to move clockwise. If I get more clockwise movement, in what direction will 2/3 points plate move to bring into adjustment? The lower end of that plate is bottoming out now so if it will then adjust counter-clockwise I'll be OK.

Thoughts? Are your there TT?

Thanks.

I read on the forum (Hondaman) the Diachi points have incorrect geometry, making adjustment difficult.
Are these what you are using?
Are you using old points that have the rubbing block worn down?

The feeler gauge placement is strategic.  You need to fit at a post that helps the points open sooner.  Place the feeler on the same side post post of the 1-4 points.  Then re-gap the points, and then try the plate rotation for the timing again.  Moving the plate closer to the cam should allow the points to open sooner.

Yes, you can file the slot for more travel.  How much adjustment is available for the 2-3?  If more than the slot extension, it should work.
