Topic: cb750 K1 Floats?

I'm working on carbs from my new cb750 K1 (03/71). They appear to be made of brass?
my K2 has floats which are made of the black rubbery material. Not sure what it is but I saw it on most other 750's I worked on.

Are the K1 floats different or are mine an aftermarket addition/change?
Please advise if you know the differences on these.

K0 and K1 are brass floats from the factory. Later ones are plastic. If you want some plastic ones, I'll trade you. 
But they do look so good!!!

When I 1st cracked them open, I giggled. Not sure if they were original they looked so nice.

If your brass are original be ready for a leak and some carb problems until you find it. I just changed all my K1 brass over to the plastic. I had 2 leaking. My KO had 1 leak so far. Not that the brass are bad, just they are getting pretty old now and are starting to leak. You can buy new ones for around $20 each. I saw the plastic are about $39 each from Yamiya. Not sure what the Honda cost would be.

where can you get the brass floats from?
i'll check mine for leaks, is there a usual spot place for the leak to occur?

Submerge them totally in a liquid than when you remove them give them a shake and listen for a sloshing or a rattle from inside.They get little pinholes or leaks around the solder.

I might just sand and re-solder them fresh, if they give me trouble.

anyone tried making custom floats for these bikes.?

You can sand and resolder, but you may change the weight of the float which could change the float height. I am not sure if Honda has the brass anymore, but I think you can get the plastic. I know http://www.yamiya750e.com/ has them. I think I saw $20 for brass and $39 or so for plastic at yamiya.

These things are a work of art. I have three pair and love them. Can you imagine the labor involved in putting these together in the factory and then hand soldering them? The new ones, although undoubtedly superior, look so,, - plastic!

I decided to clean them up and test for leaks, aren't they pretty?

Beautiful. How did you clean them up? They're pretty fragile.

dremel, polishing compound and the polishing cylinders. The varnish and grime came right off, I still have to do the tight spots by probably soaking them in carb cleaner.

They look great...careful, you may be opening up some pin holes.
