Installing Z1 Enterprises stripes/decals
« on: April 26, 2010, 05:26:08 PM »
Does anyone have experience installing the decals/graphics from Z1? I emailed them about some measurements, etc., but haven't received a response yet.
Are they water based? Can you slide them around on the tank to get them situated properly?
Or do they have some sort of adhesive on the back?
Did you clear coat over the stripes?

Easy to install

1) Paint tank and let dry, the longer the better.
2) Tank has to be spotless. Free of dirt, solvents etc.
3) You will need to have some tape to give you a guide on where to place the new decals.
4) Mist the tank with water and a touch of dishwashing liquid. (If you have ever installed car window tint it is a similar process)
5) Locate your decal. Squeegee out the water toward the  edges.
6) Remove the top application tape, hopefully without moving the decal  :)
7) Let dry for a day or two. Clean and apply clear-coat.

It is actually an easy process if you take your time. If the decal is in the wrong spot you can mist with more water to move the decal.

I'm not sure who Z1 sources their decals from but I bought mine from http://www.reproductiondecals.com

They are legally restricted from listing the Honda decals on the site but they do carry almost all the Honda decals. They used my 1976 CB750F as the template for the Sulphur Yellow decals.
