Well, I guess this is going to be my introduction as well as a list of my progress on this bike so far, I'll start it off by letting you know what's happened so far.. A buddy of mine told me that his friend had this bike sitting at his house and that this guy was nuts for trading stuff, so I searched my room for things to trade off, picked it up for a ps2 and some games! Not a bad trade off if I do say so myself, but what I thought was an awesome trade, turned into a nightmare for me. This bike was rough, missing minor parts, carbs needed work/cleaning, and during the process of tuning the carbs, the starter clutch goes out on me. So with no funds or time the bike sat.. this all happened june - july of 2009, well here it is almost a year later, and the motor is finally back on the frame! So today, it's time to get my exhaust work done, and hopefully fire this thing up before the week's end, you can count on pictures and a good story to follow! I'll post a few pics to show you the progression so far!

Do you still have the stock tank?

what did you use for a seat pan and how did you mount? looks good.

seat pan is nothing but plywood, old seat foam from the original seat, duct tape to suck it together tight, and some good leather like fabric sprayed with scotch guard, took about an hour and 12 beers to make between my friend and I lol total of about 5 bucks in it, also had some upholstery tacks to make the trim around the outside, it's mounted with two bolts we counter sunk into the wood and a couple of nuts, still kicking around ideas for the rear fender

schedule 80 steel tubing for struts


as it sits right now, started the exhaust work, now I'm being held up by exhaust gaskets, all four are shot so just waiting to get new ones, also put on the new chain, did away with the o-ring and put on a master link chain

How is the pipe attached to the swing arm? I don't think I would ever do anything like this with my bike, but I do like the lowered look of it. Maybe if I welded some struts on, but with this I think I'd be afraid the the bolts would come loose after riding for a while.

it's not attached to the swing arm yet, but it will be welded eventually, the top bolt is just the upper shock mount and hardware, it's damn solid. As far as the bolts coming loose, just put blue loctite on them and check the tightness periodically

decided on paint tonight, I'm gonna leave the tank rough primer, and chain a sharpie to the bike, just have people sign the tank.. you know.. like a cast haha

Ok, managed to get the bike started yesterday evening, that was something exciting to me, only it was 10pm and I didn't want to wake the neighbors while I was tuning the carbs and making sure the ignition timing was correct, now I have another issue, I returned today to start the tuning process, but when I go to start the bike, I only get starter spin, nothing else, last night it was starting just fine, now the starter is just free spinning, aside from gemlins messing with it in the middle of the night, does anyone have any ideas on this? The starter clutch assembly is all new parts, everything was tight on them. Is it possible that the starter needs shimmed in any way? Because if you un bolt the starter and try applying pressure on it, it will act like it wants to start, but spin away after a second, I could REALLY use some help on this one, because this is what caused me to tear this motor apart to begin with.
