CB550 Press-in main jet source
« on: April 24, 2010, 04:54:26 PM »
Alright, I've been searching for a while and can't find a good source for #105 or #110 CB550 press-in mains. North City Vintage Honda is out, Service Honda is out, no one else I've seen lists the o-ring type jets. eBay has a kit for $55 that includes 110, 115, 120, and 130, but I don't want all of those.

Suggestions?

If you see these jets for sale, and price is high, then sometimes you just have to spring for them.  Not bad to have a selection of sizes either.  Don

Well I know 115s cover my plugs in soot, so I have no use for 115s, 120s, or 130s.

It has always surprised me how even a mid-displacement motorcycle spends most of its time on the carb idle and very low speed circuitry, so idle jet and top part of the needle.  However, if you are at WOT for most of the time then the main jets will dominate the mixture.

Most of my odd ball collection of bikes have a lean burning plug centre electrode just by getting the idle air and needle into a lean condition, but sometimes my idle is erratic because it is lean.  The countryside is not too far from my driveway, so I don't spend much time idling.  Good luck.  Don

I got a jet kit from Sirius a few years back and had no problems with the quality.  Now it looks like you can buy individual jets.

7 per jet. I may be interested in your 115s if you want to get rid of them

I went ahead and ordered from PJMotorsports. I ordered some stuff from Sirius a few weeks back but since it's international, shipping took a while. I'm going to be busy/gone for over a month starting a week from today so I'd like to get this off of my mind before then. So $38 for four jets shipped via Priority it is. Harrumph.

Nick - if I don't use my 115s, they're yours.

Oh man! I just got some jets from Jets R Us for like $3.50 each! Those were for #105 I guess Im a little late though :( Are you rejetting after pods and exhaust mods? I've heard that for a 4-1 and EMGO pods you need #105 mains and maybe 1 clip up on the needle.

Its hard to be wrong when you know nothing!

I just KNEW that as soon as I bit the bullet and bought jets that someone would post a good link.

There they are.

Here's my deal. I added pods and was running the open exhaust the bike came with. I used 115s and the bike ran great. The plugs were a (darkish) tan, but I got great response at all throttle positions and RPM levels. But I was lazy about cleaning out carbs and the gas tank so the slow jets kept getting clogged.

I went to clean out the slow jets by pulling a wire through them but in the process I think I enlarged the soft slow jets, now it runs pig rich. I've since done a thorough carb cleaning and replaced the petcock so I'm getting clean gas, but I want to get it jetted properly. I have slow jets on the way, I figure 110s should be right for me.

I just bought a set of four #98's for $14 from this guy. Said they were brand new. Very easy to deal with, answered my question in 30 minutes. If you don't see what you want, send him a request.
