Probably a stupid question, but why is there a fan on the floor? That can't possibly keep the exhaust bends cool.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

when I am running an air cooled motor and not driving it,I always have a fan blowing on it.Its usually a much bigger industrial fan,its a habit I learned from Old timers who knew a HELL of a lot more than I.Plus Its the first time I started it after a fresh top end build.

The war whoop at the beginning is almost as good as the exhaust. Almost.  ;D

Good stuff. I want!

Just a fyi.
I received my exhaust from Carpy, he went out of his way to pack and ship mine on a Saturday, received them a few days later. All perfect with transaction with Carpy.

I bought the last raw exhaust he had from that batch. I didn't want to wait a week to have them ceramic coated. My desire to fire the bike asap go the best of me. I bought VHT high temp paint. Gloss black. Painted them and they looked good.

Install time. Omg they were a bear to get on. I wanted to do away with the stud and nut look and go with allen head bolts. This made it even harder to install. The pipes I would imagine were formed on a jig, but with most welding, tweek just a bit. The flanges needed a bit of honeing of the bolt holes, just a tad.
The exhaust went on finally, but in my haste, the extremely fragile VHT paint got scraped around the bolts. Bugger!!

So questions, can I respray the VHT paint after it is cured? Say adding a second coat?

Also, is ceramic coating similar to powder coating, in the sense that powdercoaters can do ceramic coating? Just haven't called around yet.

So, lastly, I would recommend paying the extra 75 bucks to have Carpys source coat them, as it will probably be best in the long run.
Hope to fire my K8 Cafe tomorrow!
Love the pipes, well worth the money!

just search around yourself for a good coater, no need to send them back to him and have to pay all that shipping!  and no, ceramic and powder coating are not the same

here's the diff:

http://www.madscientistcoating.com/the-process/ceramic-coating-vs-powder-coating.html

ceramic is a better choice for exhausts, especially if they get the inside and outside!  it will help keep the heat in the tubes, where it belongs, and aid in exhaust scavenging.  i have the carpy pipes, and after they're test fitted, tweaked and cleaned up, i'm going to take them to get ceramic coated.

Thanks for the link.
I understand the difference between powder coat and ceramic coating. I was wondering if most powder coaters can also do ceramic coating. I will call around, and check with my powder coater.
Think I will look to ceramic coat after the exhaust is all massaged out for easier install.

Thanks again.

I cant view the vid on this computer..
The fact you fired it may increase the cost of now coating it..   :((but you havent run it long so may not matter so much)

Are you saying the pipes moved a bit after you fired it?.. I can see them stress relieving a bit.
The heat paint, just try spraying some touchup on it. may have to mask off the area, or hold a piece of cardboard to protect frame/motor.

That great sound you hear is definitely with the baffle in. I think I can actually see it stuck in there. Without the baffle, it sounds very raw, raspy and harsh. .....and about 10X louder.

With the ceramic coating option: My pipes are very dirty/oily inside from running them on a motor with a few leaky rings. Is it possible to clean them good enough to have them coated on the inside?

most always the coateers will clean whatever you get them themselves, usually with a media blast and/or acid bath and wash so they start with a "fresh slate" free of imperfections.

Yeah, when I got mine cermacoated, I brought them my old, slightly rusty, OEM pipes and they fully prepped everything on them before going to town.  Most reputable places will - but check with them before you hand over the goods.
