I may have found that pesky oil leak...
« on: April 26, 2010, 11:27:32 PM »
So I'm getting ready to ride from Portland, Oregon to Malibu, California; Southward along the coast, and back through Yosemite (yeah, it's ok. I would hate me too.) I was having starting trouble, so I trouble-shot to the edge of my expertise (about the distance from my nose to my chin), and then took it to a shop to have it checked out. Mechanic troubleshoots the electrical, replaces the starter and cleans the carbs; a week later the bike is running tip top, EXCEPT, it's leaking oil. Now it had a small oil leak before, but now it actually seems to be worse, than when I took it in. Tonight I get down and check, and it turns out every single bolt in the transmission cover is loose. Loose to the tune of, I get at LEAST a full turn out of every bolt.

That could be a problem right?  ;D

It could be the problem. If the leak stops you know that it was. Pat
