76 cb750 carburetor issues
« on: July 11, 2011, 05:45:19 AM »
I put the stock carburetors on my cb 750 f with the stock air box and filter clean cleaned the carbs bench since them installed them and started it and it runs but not well. It's making a gurgling piping sound every couple seconds like its running lean or rich. I am however running a kerker header so I did in stall some 110 # main jets. The carbs are clean ignition dead on. And also when I rip the throttle some times it likes to idle up real high and some times doesn't come down on its own . And when up turn all 4 mixture screws in it seems to quite it down a little bit. Do I possibly need to enlarge my idle jet to compensate for the lack of restriction of exhaust.

Ask Jerry Rxman Griffin.  I think he had a Kerker on his 75 F0 at one time.  He will have some insight on the jetting.  Also check for leaks on the intake boots.  If it's popping it may be a lean condition.  Your air screws should be at 1 plus or minus 3/8 turns out in stock trim so use that as the starting point.

I have had a Kerker on my F1 since 1980, when the exhaust was trashed in a wreck, with everything else stock.  I removed the packing from around the baffle when it rusted into the megaphone.  It appears that mine runs a little rich, I may try going to one size smaller jets next time I have the carbs off.  I did buy a Morgan CarbTune to sync my carbs.

I recently put a Pamco electronic ignition on mine, seems to start a little better when cold now.
