Sometimes being nuts pays off!
« on: April 30, 2010, 02:04:02 PM »
Well, on my CB550 motor rebuild, I didn't have the left side crank seal settled perfect (you need to have them on the crank when putting the halves together, they have a retention lip) and I had to juggle it a bit after lifting the cases oh so slightly..................

Sleepless nights ensued. I just cracked my cases back apart, I couldn't take it anymore.

My OCD actually paid off! The helical spring that applies constant pressure to the inner seal had popped off and was just sitting there adjacent to the seal. The shoulder is tiny, and it popped out when I juggled the seal. 5 will get you 10 that she would have started leaking after 200 miles.

See that silver colored ring sitting to the left of the seal? That is WRONG.

Sometimes being nuts pays off!

you're preaching to the choir here :D
Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

Wow!  That is some years of experience and attention to detail that really paid off!  I am thoroughly impressed.   8)

I hope someday I'll also have these engine instincts too.   8)
