I believe it should be a direct swap with no problems but I can't say for sure. Maybe someone else will chime in?

I recently swapped some 750 K1 forks onto a 550 K3.  Not exactly what you are trying to do, but if I could get that to work, I'm sure you'll have no problems.  the two biggest issues I had were the differences in the brakes and the fork caps.  Issues you prolly won't have to deal with.

If you need details let me know.

great, thanks guys! thinking that since they are off the bike it is a lot easier to redo those then just swap them on.  always have a spare set that way I guess, not that I think I will ever need them...

Fork wise, I think all the 750 forks are the same. You should be able to use them no problems. Only issues might be mixing the forks with the lowers. I think the later forks had different lower as far as bolting to the bottom of the fork shaft.

Differences also between the early and late 750 fenders too.

Use the whole F'in fork.. at least on the late ones it wont rust, dont need to run headlite ears.. no groove for gaiters on the f'n legs...

No the brake brackets changed shape at some point and they carried the mounting points for the fender which changed also.

To your point, the later fenders dropped the front stay, and as you say I think shortened the front also.

I don't know enough about the 76f but I know the 76k has less rake than a 78k. I always asumed this meant the 78k had longer forks? But I am purely speculating...

I may have misread & misinformed.. sorry.. :-[ (was thinking 76K getting 78 F forks on it).

If the 76F fork has no gaiters from the factory , it should work on the 78K.

The 76 forks fit in the 78 K trees but offset is different.will still work.

When I put the K1 forks on my K3 550, I had gater issues.  Specifically, the K1 lower has a thicker flange at the top making stock fork caps not fit.  I ended up using a fork cap from a 450 plus an O-ring to make it work.  Here are some pics, let me know if you need more info.

EDIT: The fork caps (aka dust seals) for the 450 are part number 91254-435-003.  The O-ring I got at the neighborhood hardware store.
