So I recently purchased a 1973 CB500K from a guy locally. I have been wanting to build a bike for a while, and I definitely wanted to go with a Honda4 for my first bike regardless of if it was stock or custom. Although there's been problems along the way I do think I lucked out on the bike, it has all the important features I planned on. When I first saw it I knew, while she would need plenty of love, she was just the right #$%* to build from. Someone had put in a good amount of work back in the day and she was already hard tailed and raked and had a lot of the big work already done. And they had don it well too. You can tell she was hard tailed and chopped back in the day, I removed probably 30 pounds of bondo where the sporty tank was molded on and the frame was all molded up too. I stripped her all the way down and had the frame off to my good friend Steel Steve Stinson for some TLC to tighten up the welds and make sure she's roadworthy. He also worked on some other bits for me, fitting the fender from an old Triumph, and donating and fitting the new tank. We actually haven't made the final decision on the tank, it will either be a King Sporty sitting up nice and high or a small peanut mounted the same way, still deciding. My boy Heath Brogan tore into the carbs and found some trouble, so we are waiting to get a decent set from one of the members here just as soon as my paycheck comes through. The engine seems to be in decent condition so we're gonna leave her be for now and see how she runs when we get to that point. Hopefully she'll be good enough to get me through this season and then I plan to have her rebuilt over the winter. Lets see, aside from that I'm adding a mini coil-over seat suspension, got a super nice seat pan donated by my boy Milton, he donated the fender and some other bit too. This bike is all about getting a brother on the road on his first custom machine and I can't thank the people enough that have lent a hand or donated parts. I took some black clubman bars, flipped em upside down and mounted them on four inch dogbones. Headlight being used is a ebay find that I sprayed black. Got a wind turbine 3-phase Rectifier that is super nice for 15 bones on the ebay. Going with the old Fork pickup regulator. Would love to run her Kick-only but magnetos cost a bunch so I'll probably just run a small battery and kick her anyway. That's all for now I gues.
