Don't throw anything out
« on: May 01, 2010, 07:22:46 PM »
In response to the post about cutting up classics, and a recent one about removing a front fender:

Can we all agree not to throw parts in the garbage, no matter how small, how rusted, or how greasy. These bikes are old and parts are not getting any cheaper or easier to find. No matter what the part somebody here probably wants or needs it.

I have an enormous quantity of assorted 1978 750 F parts that I do not want.  And I am becoming tired of looking at them.

I am going to start killing some of them if nobody takes them off my hands.  I will videotape their deaths and post them here.

Admittedly, some of this stuff is not all that useful.  Anybody need the rear inner plastic fender?  Need three of them?

What about a box full of brake calipers?

But some of it is pretty decent.  Fork tubes.  Grab rails.

You don't want to see it die?  No problem, take it off my hands.

Whenever I throw away an old part taking up valuable shop space, I need it - usually within the week.

We have a 2 car garage, 2 garden sheds, 1 covered parking thingy, 1 small military surplus Quonset hut, 1 pickup camper, and my tin shack shop/Costco shed combo building. All are full of video games and pinball parts, car and truck factory manuals, and motorcycle parts. Also, 7 vehicles and just one (so far!) motorcycle-which is frequently parked in front of our porch (much to my guy's annoyance) he he he.

Yeah, we often refer to our place as "the compound" and the best part is we are right near the center of the city. . .lol.

I also agree with the philosophy, as soon as you throw out that part you will need it within a week!

how much for a pair of calipers with the metal brake pipe, and mounts and a master cylinder?

When you throw away a CB part, a baby squab dies...  :)
