Fix for loose gauges?
« on: May 02, 2010, 06:04:05 AM »
I have an idea how to fix this (similar to something I've done on my Yamaha XS650's), but was wondering if there was a proven fix for loose gauges?
It appears the rubber ring has shrunk and allows the gauges to wobble in their holder. What are some ways you guys and gals have repaired this?

maybe use a syringe and squirt some acetone in there to make the rubber swell up again?

My 360 was like this and I took a flat washer that fit over the "stud".

Depending on your year and model, the foam rubber rings are probably still available from Honda. And they're not too expensive. That's how I fixed the problem on my CL350 and CB500.

They're definitely still available for that bike from Honda. Part #37242-319-000. I just bought two a few months ago - around $12 each, if I remember correctly.

I pulled my gauges today and the rubber rings look like they'd been in a fire!

I removed the remnants of the rubber rings and wrapped the gauges with some foam weather stripping I had and they tightened right up. Total cost: zero dollars.

I had a couple different sizes of foam. I used one that was actually longer than the lip of the gauge so I could compress it down and form a good seal and cushion. Just remember to put the seam at the bottom of the gauge so it's less conspicuous on the bike.
