On a positive note..
« on: January 29, 2006, 02:22:04 AM »
The other day I was out on the bike, I pulled over to wait for a friend that i was meeting. Whilst waiting I took the side cover off, as I was having a problem with the indicator flasher unit.
So, whilst waiting, I had three bikers ask if I was OK and needed any help, then a guy in a 4X4 stopped and asked if I was OK. It is encouraging that there are still people out there willing to check if someone is OK.
I wonder if I had been on a modern bike would the response would have been the same?
Anyone else had good experiences?

I've had similar experiences, to the extent that now if I stop along the road to just look around or take a break, I try to get well off the road, hate to have them, nice as they are, keep stopping. Had three vehicles in a row stop or slow down one morning out along a two lane rural road.

I'd probably stop, too, if I saw some old guy wandering around the side of the highway! ;D

Actually, the thought crossed my mind. They took one look at the bike and one look at me and figured, for sure, one of us had to have broken down.  ;D ;D

Reminds me of a Mad magazine I read in 1967 or so.

I broke down last summer in the median strip of the Interstate Highway at 5pm.  Bumper to bumper traffic, 2 stops, a newer big BMW tourer and a Harley.  4 harleys passed without even looking---R.U.B.'s.
Electrical failure (fuse block melt down), I told the BMW guy that I'm considering a newer bike ('78 cb750f presently)  he advised "Keep it and fix it".  I don't know who that helmeted man was, but I took his advice.

Perhaps I should take him to that cowboy movie.

I sputtered and died on a late night trial run shortly after getting the bike.  The battery was dead enough to not turn over and I think my kick-start is messed up.  I was contemplating the looooonnnnnngggg push home in the middle of the night when a pickup stopped and gave me a jump (he had the cables).  I guess there's still some humanity left out there...

Hey Jimbo COP a load of this one,....I had just come off nights 6am, called at shop to get milk, came out, flat tyre, #$%*.
The shop keeper let me leave the bike in his yard, and off home to bed I went.
I got up mid day and armed with my RAC recovery phone number made my way to the local phone box.
I called the RAC who said they would be about 40mins and was told to stay by the phone box.
I was stood on this corner, helmet in hand, when two bike cops ride past, they turned round, came back and asked if I was OK.
I thanked them, said yes and off they rode.
I was thinking, if the cops had been in a car would they have done the same when a cop in a car pulled up and asked me the same.
It was a day I couldn't win. ;D ;D ;D
