something i've noticed about the search tool
« on: January 28, 2006, 06:05:46 PM »
If you folks are having difficulty finding something with the search tool... execute the search twice.

yes... the exact same search twice.  for some reason, nearly every time i search for something i have to do it twice.

the first search often produces nothing or only a hit or two... the next time... voila!  it finds what i want it to.  i thought it must be a fluke but, having done this on many occasions it is probably just a software flaw.

I've always though the search tool was pretty useless.

A few times I've searched for a string that I know is in here and it comes up blank  ???

Now I know I've only got to try twice!

Works good for me as long as I get the wording right.

The only problem I've had is I can't figure out how to get it to search for an entire phrase.  It picks out the individual words and shows topics with those words, but not as a complete phrase.

I've never been very successful using the forum search either, so I stick with Google and restrict the search to the current site. The info. found is usually quite relevant.
