Killer Bees !
« on: May 15, 2010, 08:37:19 PM »
Went by and visited this place today;
http://www.britonbees.com/

I want one.  This guy even builds the frames.  Little SCREAMERS!
Very good looking too.  Quality compnents.  49cc's tuned to ge 50 mph, and he's prepping a bike for the Salt Flats.

I just think it's so cool that Asheville has a true old school shop like this.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

The MotorDrone is fantastic! Really cool.

I don't see prices on his site, except the reference "pick up one of our vintage mopeds for 4-5 bills"  Is that 4000-5000 Uncle Ernie?

I just sent off an email asking what pricing and options are available, and if one will haul my 275 pound ass around town. I want one with no pedals and a full kit engine!

He has 2 with "foot pegs", but I forgot to notice how it starts...  The Tomos and such you have to peddle to start.
The 2 Britons he has in the window are full-race French jobs.  he says they can do 50 pretty easy- he's had them up to 58 on flat ground (he says).  Hard to imagine with no transmission.  I don't really get how these things work.

I can't remember a price... I seem to remember I thought it was too cheap.  I think I'll call him.

OK- the Bees, depending on engine type (mostly), run from $2K to $2500.00.

If interested, I'm thinking you should get one before he wakes up.
If anyone wants to come up and see one, let me know.  I'd love to go over again.

This is the email I got back, unfortunately, My money is going to get the K and F back on the road, but if the money landed in my lap, I would so be there right now!

Heya Chris,

Thanks for looking us up, I build only 10 at a time, i only have 4 left of the motordronse then it will be a different frame and tank, the base price is $2000 but if you want us to do case match and some port work we can do it, i also recommend a polini 4 reed and maybe a dellorto 17 mm racing carb, i would put a long seat (like the gitane in our blog ) i would then recommend different color choice to you, and maybe rims and other goodies...i just checked with the VA dmv and you should be fine. Also the new morini s6t is now 6.7 hp with an HPI cdi unit , our pipes are made by my partner Motion left mopeds in IN and are built for the power band of the morini our bike weight less then 75lbs , i truly don't think your size is an issue, one of the cats who works here is 250lbs and climbs our mountains at 50mph on the drones. My wife just had a kid so things are little crazy and the crew is in Chicago at a race this weekend, i'll be at the shop monday you can call me there 828-254-4244 but if i am not for some reason feel free to call me on my cell 828-335-2737. Again thanks for checking us out.

Cheers
Emmanuel
