type one drain screws

if you have type one carbs and the drain screw slots are unusable, youve probably gotten one or two out with self locking pliers, ive even sheared them off with a screw driver before,if they come out and you want to replace them with an easier screw, just use a 1/4 UNF tap and just with some finesse run it through the existing hole and thread, then use stainless button heads with an appropiate o ring under it,dont winch them down too tight, just flatten the o ring then nip it up,,you have to remove the screw fully to get the drain action again,if youve sheared of the factory brass screw, carefully run a 5.5 mm drill bit through it trying to keep it centred,,the bit should track into the drain hole in the brass left over thread,,then run your 1/4 UNF tap through that paying a little more attention on this one to keep it centred.

How does one get the stock bowl drain screws out? I sacrificed one of my big screwdrivers (filed down the end of it to fit the screws) but the darn screws will NOT come out. Is the only solution drilling them out?  :o

I had one that wouldn't come out. I soaked it in PB Blaster overnight, rapped it with a hammer a few times and it popped loose.

self locking pliers can work,or nudge it in the undo direction with a punch or small chisel.

Got one more off this AM, the other screw I broke the head off of it. 3 out of 4 wasn't too bad.
Anyone have a float bowl or drain screw they could sell me?  :)
Thanks

the first post describes what you can do with a sheared off screw in these carbs.

That is exactly what I did to it Dave. Thanks for the tip!
Now all I need is the float I ordered on eBay to show up and I'll be "back in the Saddle"  :)
