You know why people are so aggressive? Because this forum is saturated with macho chest-thumping.
"My old-ass honda goes faster than yours."
"My old-ass honda has more hand-made parts than yours."
"I have a K0/sandcast/whatever."
"I have a Rickman (whatever)."
"I have a Tracy (whatever)."
"Mine are plain-jane, but I have a ton of them."
"I can do it all myself."
"I can pay someone else to do it all in my sleep."
"My chopper leans out further than yours."
"My cafe bump seat looks better than yours."
"My triangle is cleaner than yours."
"Pods suck"
"Do not."
"Do so."
"Synthetic oil will blow up your engine."
"Will not."
"Will so."
"My politics are superior to yours."
"My morals are superior to yours."
"If you don't follow the book verbatim, you're wrong."
"If you follow the book verbatim, you're unimaginative."
And so it goes, on and on and on and on. Everywhere you look on this forum, beyond the first few pages of usefulness, you will see some form of the above. It just keeps going forever. Once you know and understand this about the forum, it gets easier to recognize and ignore (or poke fun at) but until then, yeah, it's extremely agitating.
Take it for granted, though, that there are little niches here and there where people eventually fit in and find their place. The cb650 niche is small enough that I think we all generally know each other and help each other out. I'm pretty sure that happens with other groups, too... It's when you get really wide-spread, nonspecific group attention that the feces will hit the fan.
Note: Within this post, you will find a subtle, underlying theme of "My morals are better than yours" with an aside that "My spelling and grammar are both better than yours."
