pod filters on my cb650c
« on: May 04, 2010, 03:25:00 PM »
i recently put pod filters on my cb650c to make sure they fit and they did and looked great the bike ran good with them (just had it idleing in the carage so far)..but when i tried using the choke the two filters rubber hose was in the way so the choke couldnt move up or down..i guess the only way i can think of is cutting some of the rubber off to make it thinner where the two inside filters go...any other ideas??

I trimmed down the choke lever making it thin enough to just fit between the filters, and I cut in a new notch for the cable end.  What year CB650C?

Yes, and with the 2 inner pods just cocked a little, it just bearly rubs.

So you have the mechanical slide carbs vs. the CVs. Here's how I set mine up:
Idle jets 47 (.016 drill bit), Mains 110, Slide 56B with a 35B needle.  I had two sets of carbs to mix and match parts from.  The 35B needle is richer than the 59A needle.

Yes, it idled too lean.

Are you using oil on the pod filters?  If so that would be the difference between our bikes.  I don't use oil because it makes a mess and I can never get the coverage to be consistant from one filter to the next.

nope no oil..what would that do for it? and im not really thinking of drilling the jets...i'm really having trouble to just get it to idle correctly and i think its from the pilot jets anyway..

The 35B needles were from a 2nd set of carbs, probably from earlier CB650's.  Right now your idle is way too lean.  I have a '79 engine (in the '81 frame) and the '81 engine and 3 or 4 sets of carbs to play with.
