I think I saw one of these in a Honda shop in Gilroy, CA, maybe in '90-'92. At first glance, I thought it was a vintage Britt bike, so I had a closer look. At the time, I figured it was one of those bikes that just didn't appeal to the common market, like the '82 500 single Ascots that you could buy new in the mid '80s for less than a grand.

I used to see a few on the street in boston about 10 years ago, now the only one I know of sits in a riding gear shop/cafe as a decoration...

A search turned up these two that make the one you linked to seem like a bargain.

By the way many parts for these are total unobtainium, so don't get any ideas unless it's a cheap wreck with good parts that's been sitting in an apartment since 1990..... ;D

Yep, a true cult bike.

Great little machines, and a ton of fun.

Built around the RFVC-headed 500cc XL/XR motor, so super reliable.  As mentioned, a lot of 'specialty' parts to make it look the way it does.

BTW, part of the reason you could get the FT500 Ascot cheap in the mid-80s was the killer recession that hit.  ALL the manufacturers had backlogs piling up in warehouses.  ALL offered new '82 and '83 models as late as '85 and '86.  It was a tough time.  ALL the mfg's dramatically pared back on their model lines.  I've owned two FT500's over the years, and they're great fun!  And the GB500 was supposedly an improvement in all areas over the Ascot.

Have fun with it!

No comparison to the Ascot, really.

That guy mentioned is asking that money because of the very low mileage.  It's up to you if that's worth it...  They usualy go around $5K- but the prices continue to slowly climb.

Similar to the W650, very few sold and now they're a cult bike.  They handle like a dream;  very light.  It will get up to 80-86 no problem, but some people do a 600cc kit.

Beware;  they are small, 3/4 sized, purpose-built bikes.  No compromises.  If you can't stand to be a pretzel for very long, it will hurt to keep it and hurt to sell it.

One of these came up on Chicago craigslist about 18 months ago for $3000. It was all stock except for the muffler, I emailed but was too late.
