Mini turn signals on stock headlight ears?
« on: May 04, 2010, 11:13:30 AM »
Most of the pics of mini turn signals show them on aftermarket headlight ears. Has anyone found a set that will work with the stock headlight ears?
('71 CB 500...turn signals mount through ears/headlight bucket). I'm having a hard time finding anything with long enough threads. Has anyone used these specifically:

are they plastic or aluminum? makes a big difference when they get bumped a bit.
1969 CL350 Scrambler... almost done!!! Well, until something else goes wrong. :)
2006 HD 883 Sportster, stock. No use changing it, it's still gonna be a Harley.

i ordered a set of cheapo ebay mini signals. with out thinking about the mounting issue... i had to drillout the inside of the headlight ear so it only bolts to the outside... let me know if thats to confusing. oh and the cheap signals.... they are cheap. i only paid $6 for all four of mine so i wasnt expecting much, good thing... they are crap, but kind of function.

I've used the signals in the second link I posted. They worked great on my XS650 cafe' racer, but I was using aftermarket headlight ears.
My main concern with these is having enough threads on the mounting post.
Domer, how will drilling out the ear help? I have to be able to get the post inside the headlight bucket and then get a nut on it. See what I mean?

These are the kind I've used on several of my builds:

They're billet aluminum, anodized, about 2" long and the led's are super bright but white when not illuminated. They come in several styles and also in red. Can't say enough good things about them.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

Swellguy,
What are they called and where can I get some? Do they come with a stem and wires? Any links. Thanks in advance.

I like the look of the Suzuki ones you linked to, but new chrome....even over inexpensive plastic directionals may make all of your other chrome look bad.  Personally I'd get something that looks the part on your bike so it blends in better, then throw on some new lenses.

Harrison Specialties on eBay:

Check their store for other styles/shapes.

I'll be using a set of them right now for my ongoing cb750 cafe project.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

To give you a sense of scale, on the front I'm going to use them on the headlight ears:

Like I said, they're white when not illuminated so I they really do the trick.

I got a reply from one of the ebay auctions and the threaded stem is 3/4"; probably not long enough to do what I want.
I did find a set of for decent stock turn signals for $40 shipped and have them on the way. That should solve my problems.
