Castrol 10/40 motorcycle for the initial startup.  1st change will be the same.  After that we'll see.  However, the only time I haven't use Castrol was when they didn't have the weight I wanted in syn for the race TwinCam.

Oh no synthetic! GASP!  don't you know if you use synthetic your bike will spontainiously combust and the bike will spring forth oil leaks from your running lights... sorry folks sorry sorry I had too.  ;D

Not yet.  Should have some later next week, after the rear sets get sorted out.

Got a couple of things done at the shop today.

1st up was to do the final install of the remote filter mount.  Decided to install the OZ filter that Terry sent.  Just have to install the hose clamp and a new drain washer and its ready for oil.  Also dropped the oil pan and gave it a cleaning.  Wasn't as bad as I had expected, and the screen was actually clean.

Next up was installing the cables.  Had Motion Pro make up a set of throttle cables with the same housing length as the 500, but with the extra free cable of the 77/78 550.  They also offer a clutch cable that is 1 1/2" shorter than stock that fits the drag bar perfectly.  Just not sure of its final routing yet.  After I installed the choke cable, it wasn't closing the butterflies properly, may be a linkage problem. :( ::)

Last on the list for today was to test fit the brake cable MP made.  Need to pick up a heim joint, and a short spring, but the fit is great.  The rear sets should be ready early next week.  Once they are on, I can finish mounting the brake cable.

Still to do - fix choke operation / have the rims balanced now that disks & sprockets are installed / install rearsets / add fuel & overflow lines / install pipes / recheck timing & valves / start it! ;D ;D ;D

It's sooooooooooo clean, it seems a shame to fill it with fluids and run it. ;)

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

Any running at this point in the season will be 'indoors'.  So unless it leaks like a sieve ( ::)), it should still be clean in the spring. :) :)

You're in Bolton, right?

If we get some freakish warm weather in Nov I might like to ride out and have a look at your bike if it's not too much of an imposition.

Yes I'm in Bolton, but the bike is being assembled in Trenton.  Where are you Syscrush?

Well at least you used the junior form 'tt', not Two tired's 'TT'. :)  You could use Ttop, but then you would probably have GM after you. ;)

As for the points cover, I really like Frankenbike's work.  Just rec'd a set of silver finned covers, and a beautiful finned blue points one.  A cover for every occasion now. ;) :)

Also rec'd some of his side covers for the 73 750K.  Their the best looking part of that disaster now. ;)  Probably doubled its value. ;D ;D

I'm in Toronto.  With my current schedule, an after-work rip out to Bolton would be doable, but Trenton's a bit much. :)

And you don't need to lurk anymore.  All comments & suggestions are welcome. ;)

In that case... ;)

I think your bike is awesome and I'm looking forward to seeing it all come together.  When it does, this comment might not apply so take it for what it's worth... But I think that there are a few too many colors going on in your points cover / remote filter mount area on the right side of the motor.  If you've got a silver finned cover now, I suggest swapping that on to see how it looks.

Valid observation.  It's one of the reasons I took Frankenbike up on his offer and got the cover(s).  I'm waiting until the pipes are re-fitted, as that will add a lot of dark under that area.  The idea of being able to see the points working is what I like about the transparent cover.  Maybe I should get a clear one and run a poll, with pictures. ;) :)

As for seeing the bike, I make some Saturday runs to the shop.  Spend a couple of hours, then back.  So if you would like to join me one Saturday, send me a PM.

Finally got back down to the shop today, and got a couple of things done.  1st up, was retrieving the wheels from the local Yamaha shop.  I had them dropped off earlier in the week for balancing.  Did a nice job, used spoke weights, instead of the stick-on ones.  Did replace the front axle backward though. ::)

The other big item for today was to reinstall the pipes for the last time.  What a PITA, smiled every time I looked at that remote filter. ;) :)  They sure do look great though. ;D  Tried one of Frankenbike's silver finned covers too.  Humm...syscrush might be right.  When I got the blue cover, I wasn't planning on the remote filter.

Also fitted the brake side rear set.  Need to fabricate a bracket to mount the pedal end of the brake cable.  The rear sets are from Denis at CMR.  The pegs are anodized, with a nice heavy knurl; and the other parts are tumbled.  The toe piece is adjustable for position to suit foot size. 8)  The pickup is adjustable through 360, in 15 degree steps; and you can just make out the stop which allows for fine adjustment.  A really slick setup, glad I waited for it.

Just a couple of brackets to make, and a final electrical check.  Then once through the '3000 mile', and it will be time to press the button. ;D

So what are you going to do about the kick starter hitting the pedals?
