Ok, I had a feeling that was your motivation for a remote filter. Who drew up the design? It looks pretty bad ass!

Thanks for the compliment Godffrey.  The design was a joint effort between Terry and myself.  I sent him pictures and descriptions of what I wanted to do, and he machined up the parts you see, incorporating his ideas.

As for a cooler, to start with no.  However adding one just involves mounting it, and changing the line coming back from the filter.  It would run to the cooler then back to the adapter at the engine front (up & down frame tubes).  Could probably reuse the original line for the return, with a new fitting at the cooler.

Well that's a real nifty idea and it's great to have access to that kind of equipment. 

I just noticed your in Canaida witch means you likely wont have much need for an oil cooler  in your climate. 

Keep up the postings, I'm digging the technical stuff you guys are doing!

Here is my Frankenbike. The remote filter isnt mounted yet. Maybe this weekend. I really like the Terry setup. Too bad there isnt a way of incorporating and oil filter, simple heat sink into that chunk of aluminum. You guys have def. got alot of interest in that design. Great thinking.

Not sure about not needing a cooler up here in Canada.  The past couple of days its been 90+F with the humidity reading.  Solving the technical issues has been the best part for me in this build.  Love problems - just means I have to find, or design a solution.

Thanks Frankenbike.  Really like where your going with your project; and your blue points cover is going to set off my remote oil filter setup.

The remote filter package was definitely a joint design effort, but Terry's machining skills are what brought it to life.  Have been thinking about adding a tweek or two when it arrives from OZ.

Got to the shop today.  Sorted out more of the wiring, installed some more parts, and got the SS hose clamps ready for the carbs. 

The ignition switch installed in its new home.


YSS shocks installed.


Intake clamps shortened, ready for the carbs.  Would have had them on today, except I forgot to take the floats.   Tomorrow.


Swarbrick pipes back from the coaters.  Look great.   Had new clamps made from some 3/8 alloy I had, better then the 1/4 steel that came with the pipes.  Should go on later in the week.   The header with the clamp was given a lite wipe, the rest will have the same low gloss once wiped.


Tomorrow, finish the carb install, and route the cables.  If the sprocket and chain come in those will go on as well.

Remembered to take the floats this time , so the bike finally has carbs again.  One float pin seemed to have put on weight, and although in came from one of the 4, it wasn't going back.  Had my 46C's handy, so I pull one from there and got the heights adjusted.

Initial setup is using #40 mains with the bottom emulsion tube hole drilled one over / F #98 mains with top emulsion tube hole drilled one over / floats @ 15 / 77 K needle lifted 1 notch.  Still have to fit the velocity stacks.


The new chain and sprocket came in, so I finished my 530 to 520 conversion.  Many thanks to Alex @ Krause Racing.  It slipped on just like a factory piece, even uses the Honda clip.



Also got the solenoid mounted to the underside of the battery tray.  Just need to make a tray for under the seat.  It will hold the Hondaman ignition, and the HID components.  Once those are in place I can start connecting stuff. 

Fork brace is out for polish & anodizing.  Once its back the front end can go on for the last time.   Did the bwaller mod to the brake pin, worked great.

The lower care and less lube all over, those were my two reasons for going o-ring.  Having to also go to 520 was a side benefit, but not inexpensive if you want to stay with the 17T front sprocket.

Hi P_Camps, thanks for the compliment.  I'm assembling the bike in Trenton, in space I rented from CMR Racing Products.  Makes life easier when I need to make that next special bracket , all the fab tools are next door.   The location has other benefits in that the water jet / machine shop is only 5 minutes away, and I can walk to the paint & upholstery shops in under a minute.

Got back down to the shop today.  Finally started on the wiring harness.  Also got over to the waterjet guys to pickup a couple of pieces.

Just have the flasher relay to mount on the back tray.  Trays to hold the HID ballest & the Hondaman ignition waiting final fitting.  They will mount under the seat supports, and use the seat bolts for attachment.  Got the charging system sorted & hooked up.  Will be drilling holes at each end of the circuit breaker panel & fitting grommets. The wires will be pulled through a cover once I know how many will be on each side.  Plan on running all the lighting related wires up the left side of the frame, & the power / ignition up the right side.



Picked up the revised rearset plates.  Will use the prototypes to establish peg position, then do a final drill of the revised plates.  Had some front engine mounts in alloy.  Problem was they were to thick.   Had the machine shop face them down to usable thickness.   They should look great.   Also got the stack mounts I designed for my FCR velocity stacks.  They need to be drilled, and finished.  Think I will give them a brushed finish.  Still working on an air filter design.  Will probably go with what I know from the race cars, and use either Piper, or ITG filter socks.


Ordered the Aeroquip 'Startlite' hose and fittings for the oil system, & the oil pressure gauge.  Should have the fork brace back early next week, then I can do a final assembly of the front end.  That will only leave mounting the fender to do.   Of course that doesn't included doing the final wiring in the headlight.
