Nasty acident pics
« on: May 05, 2010, 01:20:36 PM »
I don't know if this was previously posted, it was forwarded to me recently.  He knows cell phones are a pet peeve of mine:

Quote
"The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately
85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she
pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the
motorcycle. The riders reaction time was not sufficient
enough to avoid this accident.
The car had two passengers
and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them.
The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact
and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were
killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at
the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department.. :[
It is a proven fact that modifying a SOHC Honda in any way will bring on the apocalypse.

There is another version of this at 'Snopes' that says the rider was travelling 155mph and there is no mention of the cars driver using a cell phone. This story has been floating around the web for quite some time. 'Snopes' say's since Nov. 2005.
The actual true story of the accident seemingly remains unknown... :-\ :-\

I have been hit twice by cars while on my 750 K4.

The last time was by a woman on a cell phone.  I was standing still
at a red light.

I cannot stand people going yak, yak, yak on a cell phone while driving.

That pic is sickening, I've seen it before as well, and I remember seeing a similar pic many years ago of a Kawasaki GPZ1000 sitting in the drivers seat of a car, it was taken here on the "Yarra Boulevard" in Melbourne and the female driver was killed instantly while the rider survived. It seemed that the driver didn't "give way" to the rider at a "T" intersection when she was attempting to make a turn. At the time I thought it was almost ironic justice.

Coincidentally, I met the rider years later, and he told me that while technically she was "in the wrong" for failing to give way, morally, he was totally at fault because he was riding at approx twice the posted speed limit. (the Yarra Boulevard is very popular with boy racers on weekends as it's 5 or 6 miles of knee scraping corners) He told me that he was so badly injured he wasn't expected to walk again, after breaking both arms, his back, and pretty much every major bone from his shoulders down, and he showed me some of the scarring, which was horrific.

He'd just started riding again when I spoke to him, he'd bought another Kawasaki GPZ1000 like the one he'd crashed but apparently this had brought back the nightmares and the guilt that he'd endured since the crash, the woman who'd died was the mother of two small children and he felt responsible for taking away their mother, and he was having a rough time of it. He told me that there were many times when he'd wished he'd died in the crash and she'd survived, it was very sad, the crash took one one life, but ruined many............  :'(
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That tail section looks to be ok.... think they'd sell it to me?

I find it hilarious that some people think just because we are going fast (or look fast sitting still) that most bike riders are dangerous morons who should be forced off the road.

I have been creamed by a drunk, hit by a bus, and told several times that riding a motorcycle is the most dangerous thing I can do.

My reply.... riding a motorcycle isn't dangerous. Riding a motorcycle in traffic with a bunch of multi-tasking retards is dangerous. So get off your cell phone, stop eating and doing your make-up and put both hands on your #$%*ing steering wheels.

Too harsh??    .............. Get over it.

I saw these pictures years ago on the DOHC site I frequent.  It has become an inside expression that you shouldn't be riding on carpet tiles (lame joke, I know).  I get incredibly pissed at novice riders who split lanes around my car and then have to slam their brakes 5 seconds later.  It's all just another reminder why the only safe way to ride is to assume that at any moment, from any direction, someone is aiming for you and doesn't even realize it.
