Almost bought a Goldwing
« on: November 14, 2015, 03:19:11 PM »
I have a bad habit of cruising CL and found an 80 GW that looked to need some love and was cheap. 44K on the clock and it was in pieces, but a roller. Radiator was off and the front cam belt covers were off. The said it runs (yeah right) and they had all the parts to put it back together. After a flurry of texts and pics I offered $500 for it, clean title and non-op, so no back fee's on it. He shoot back $600 is the lowest he would go.....I passed on it, I think I just have $$$$ burning a hole in my pocket right now. It's not like I don't have enough projects to do.....LOL.  I think if I was going to get a GW it would be a GL1200 Aspencade fully decked out for cross-country and you can still see the engine.   ;)

Hmmm, I wonder why the front belt covers were off.

That had me wondering too, I went on the thought of.......why would you take a good running bike apart and put it on non-op?

I almost bought a couple of them for $200 both early years 75/76.  Was going to use the nice stuff and part the rest, but didn't feel right about it.

The early naked Wings 75-77 are very nice bikes Desert with plenty of power, super smooth and quite. A fairing has been added but check out this 77 GL1000. Looks like it would be a good everyday rider and in your area I think.

It is nice, but I won't pay that much for a wing.

Plain to see Chew you aren't a Wang fan ;D Seller has it for $1499 says it runs good and has clear title and is negotiable. Hand him $1200 and see if he bites. IMO a dang good deal ;)

I like the new wings better.  The old wings I have to stuff my feet under the boxer engine and it is not comfortable.

Im 5'9 and have a size 9 1/2 shoe and have never felt like Im having to stuff my feet under the cylinders. For me the riding position is very comfortable. Thanks again for selling me those 3 HM341 pipes several years ago. About a year or so later I finally found a #2 pipe out of Australia.

Think I'll bundle up a little bit and take the ole 77 Wang for a Sunday afternoon spin 8)

You should.  I need to go for a spin myself.

I'm 6' and don't have my feet under cyls either on my 83 interstate but mine has foot pegs rather than floor boards like many others do. Only issue I have is the cyls sometimes get in the way of my feet when I go to put my feet down coming to a stop, almost dropped it a couple of times because of it.

There's a 77 around me that looks decent for $700. Someone tried to "Brat" it and its an electrical nightmare now. He has most of the stock parts, and there's one pic showing a harness laying on the floor.

I think I'll finish Mayble before I get another bike.

Sounds like a nightmare. I think I would stay away from that one Desert. Find you a decent runner at a fair price that just needs some minor things and some TLC like the one I listed. A lot of times the cheap non running project bike ends up being not so cheap and a money pit and costing you a whole lot more when all is said and done.

Good luck with your search

I have other projects to get done first, winter is coming and I don't have my bad weather vehicle's upgrades done yet...but its close. Then the 750 will go through the next build phase. I'm just missing having a loaded touring machine, there just so much fun to eat miles with!   8)
