OK guys nothing quite like peas eaten off the vine or for dinner that only takes 5 minutes, picked shelled and into the pot and then buttered Aah,
My pea pods were just starting to plump up when powdery mildew killed all the plants in about a week.  I just don't know how to stop or prevent the mildew and its spread.

Hi Lloyd..

Watch to see that you're not overhead watering (using sprinkler).  Peas/legumes are best watered by ground methods..drip or regular irrigation. The excess surface moisture..especially if left on the plant overnight..tends to encourage powdery mildew growth.  But once it's in your garden..there or on other plants..it tends to spread easily.

There's an organic product you can use called "GreenCure"..which is essentially potassium bicarbonate.  Comes as a powder you mix with water..then spray on plant.  Works pretty good if you catch the mildew early..before it spreads all over plant.  Otherwise need to pull entire infected plant..get out of your of garden..or the spores just hang around to infect other..or new growth.  Manufacturer of GreenCure is called H & I Agritech in Ithaca, NY.  You can also use the product to sterilize the soil over winter..after you've got all the old infected stuff cleared.

Cheers..

Thanks Al,

I'll look for "Greencure".
My veg garden is watered via drip irrigation.  It's all on an automatic timer.  Only my front yard is watered by sprinkler...when I remember to do it.  ;D

Lloyd, we regularly suffer from powdery in our cucurbits, to treat it we use lime sulphur.  We buy it as a concentrate, dilute it and spray it on.  The stuff stinks like rotten eggs but stops the spread.  You have to catch it early because the affected area won't heal, but after a spray with the lime sulphur it doesn't get any worse.  If you have a lot of rain you need to retreat every few days, but the stuff isn't expensive and it goes a long way.  Just don't get it on your skin, you will reek of rotten eggs for hours ;D.

Hey All,
My ghost peppers are coming in nicely. I found someone that will enjoy them. This Tia. girls mom is a trooper and eats Habbenero peppers like candy. She said she will give a couple to her mom.

One time my dad was in the kitchen and started screaming. I thought is was something serious but I had left a few little orange peppers around and he thought he might try just  one bite.  It doesn't take too many of those  to make a three year supply of sauce, and you have to be careful because a few tablespoons in a pot of spaghetti sauce makes it hot for some people.

all the peppers that where on the plant got stripped then the hail put holes in them like a machine gun. Gypsy, serrano, bell, ghost, cherry hot. I think my asparagus will live on it is its second year and looking good.
Now looking into the fall crops. Look's like I'll be growing more indoors this winter.

Not frogs but butterflies in great numbers this year.  Maybe because it was a locust year too?

And speaking of garden, harvesting grapes this week.

Chardonel - white - and Chambourcin - red.

I love to grow garlic, I think it's the elephant kind. It sends up a big puff ball flower that lasts months.  I use the leaves to season pans when I fry stuff and best of all it is green in the winter when little else is.  I think I posted a pic here somewhere of one of them.

Here's one that came up alone.  I've since put it in the front yard and it split a couple times.

WE had 2c overnight 2 nights ago figured that was it but went out yesterday and everything was OK need another couple of weeks of sun and reasonably warm weather (10 - 20 c or 50 - 60F) to get my Jamaican Perfume peppers to ripen we're already to start bringing in the Rosemary, Bay tree, etc and maybe I dig up the peppers I want to save and pot them so they can come in.

I haven't, but I do know they sell seedlings/saplings online, including lots of very very neat heirloom species worth saving. Apple trees are something I can't wait to have a few of. : )

Well were still trying to get garlic in but the weather is not co-operating cold temps in the morning sleet, rain, snow. we've got enough in for next winter I think but still have to get in stuff for other people and grow out projects. problem is I've been been feeling like #$%* and if I go out and work in garden in the morning I have to have a nap which leaves my wife having to do garden clean up, planting and she's really getting too old to do it by herself. Oh well such is life. Still have to get a walk on the Bruce Trail before it snows.
