This was last year at the Petoskey marina.
Don't have it in the water yet this year.
Gonna have to get a lot warmer before I am motivated enough to deal with it. Hopefully it will be a nice summer up here.

Oh, man,  I have so many 'action' shots of the kids being pulled around the lake.  Hard to choose!  I'll upload a few to photobucket and post 'em.

Here she is in all her pride and glory. CSL Plover. A 31 foot survey launch. Got a well seasoned cox'un and myself as hydrographer.  Plover currently has a Kongsberg EM3002 multibeam echosounder system. Listed as good to 200 metres depth, but I past 160 or so the data gets twitchy. Gotta call in the bigger systems for that. However I like to play in the shallows. The launch draws 1.1 metres and we've been there more than once. And that transducer is $130,000 to replace. We've surveyed when larger vessels - ships have refused to come out and play. To combat 3-4 metre swells the launch has the same inertial guidance as a 747. Takes out all the movement of the launch - pitch, roll, heave, squat, yaw. And gone are the days of having to install a tide gauge. A company called Omnistar has a multi satellite GPS add on that makes the launch a real time tide gauge. As a tribute to the AVG and just 'cuz I love the P40 shark look I painted her bow.

And her she is with her shipmate, CSL Pipit. The mothership CCGS Matthew carries 2 launches.

And here is a result of one are I surveyed in 2008. Its the Penguin Islands south of Western Newfoundland. The black holes are the islands themselves. Its surveyed to the low water line. This area is approximately 3 by 2 kilometres. Depths go from around 160 meters to 1.3 metre dry.

Wow, some cool boats.  Here's mine:

I do charter fishing on Lake Superior out of Knife River in the summer.  If you're interested here's a link to my website:

If you're in the area stop by and say hello.  If you want to do some fishing I'll knock 25% off for any SOHC4er.

OK, family boating is my hobby after vintage bikes, so here we go:

Picked this boat up 6 or 7 years ago for $1000.  A 19' Galaxy bow-rider family boat.  Here's our first outing, putting in the Intracoastal Waterway in West Palm Beach, FL:

Now living in Orlando, FL.  Here's how some of the boating trips end:  getting towed back to the ramp by a kind stranger for one malfunction or another...   ;D :-[

But when things go right, it's just a great time:

A few years back, it was time to replace the rotted interior with something a bit less plush, but a lot more user-friendly:

And they all have a great time.  And it's amazing to look back and see how much those guys are growing!!  All a bunch of fine young men, now.
