Dual Disc 550 help (how to eliminate speedo drive)
« on: October 31, 2010, 09:17:29 AM »
I am doing the dual disc setup. I cut down the speedo driveplate, got rid of the chrome ring, and now when I run the axle through, the speedo drive gear hits the nuts/bolts for the rotor. Am I missing something obvious here?

If I chose to do a digital speedo, how would I eliminate the speedo drive altogether?
Stack washers up on the one side?

Also, if I tighten the axle nuts, is the wheel supposed to turn freely when holding the axle? Or will the weight of the bike make it turn easier than my hand will? It just seems to be off to me, but hey, what do I know?

Pics would probably pull in the guys who know for sure but assuming that the 550 procedure is pretty much the same as the 750 procedure it should look like

Think I'd just leave the drive in place for spacing.

Yeah, that's not right. If you're like me you're overthinking it  ;D It's pretty easy.

Pics please.

Edit: Sorry, finding reasons not to do chores this morning - they don't look substantially different to me

after looking at the parts fiche I see the hub spacer is missing on the front wheel. And after looking at the rear wheel I see there is a piece missing too. Luckily I have a second set of wheels.

I will never again let someone else assemble my wheels after powdercoat.
