Looking for comments on my engine's paint job
« on: May 10, 2010, 07:55:15 AM »
Just finished these pieces last night...  I'm pretty happy with the fins, but the gray on the valve cover came out much lighter than I expected.  I'm pretty sure it's the primer I used underneath that is giving it that lighter, almost creamy tone.

I'm debating about repainting the gray pieces to get a darker color...  what do you think?  I need to decide if I am going to stick with this shade before I do my cases.

That second tappet cover still has some buffing compound on it...

I think it looks really cool.

I painted my engine too, only it's mostly black. The truth is that if I had to to do over again I would have gone with a silver(ish) or aluminum color. Oh well, I'll have to do something besides black on the frame to give it some contrast.

Wow dude the light color is excellent.  The combination of the color of the valve cover with the cylinder fins is cool, if it were me I would say "I'm on to something here" and stick with it!   Making it a duller gray will have it looking like every other painted motor out there.   The light color looks a bit exotic, don't know if you intended that, but it looks nice.

Thanks for the positive comments.  Thinking now that I'll go ahead and do the cases this color too.  They are already stripped and I already have the paint, so onward into the fumes.

Once I get the motor done, it may help me finally decide on the rest of the colors for the bike.  Leaning towards a cream or smoke color for the frame, so a motor that's this lighter shade of gray might go quite nicely.

I really like that color gray/silver you have on the pieces!  But, if you are undecided, spend a few bucks and some time and repaint it.  You'll be glad you did whether you stay with this color or change it darker, because you'll know exactly what each looked like.  Then when you are all finished you'll know you got exactly what you wanted!

Hey that looks fantastic, I wish my 550 looked that good. I guess I have some planning to do now to come close to that. Thank you for sharing this . Bigjoshl.

A friend of mine said it reminded him of TRON.  Now I think I am totally sold on the color scheme.

That is one of the better jobs I have seen on here. Stick with it.

i like it!  i can't decide what color i'm going to paint my motor, but this puts one more tick to black!  have you thought about detailing the SOHC 750 on the valve cover with the same color black as on the cylinders and head?  i think that would look good too!  subtle things distinguish you from the norm!

Downright perfect, it's exactly the same type of job I'm planning to do with mine... What type of paint did you use?
