Picture of your first bike
« on: May 07, 2010, 01:34:28 PM »
I stumbled across a photo of my first bike and scanned it in.  It's a GS850GL (mid 80s) with the whole Vetter touring package.  Also, not the city bus elbows the PO had welded on the exhaust!

Anyone else have pictures of that bike that first got you into this whole crazy riding thing?

I don't have a photo but I remember it fondly and wish I still had it!
It was a '66 Suzuki X6 Hustler, my first "real" bike, I think I was 15!!
It would top out at a whopping 100 mph, I thought I was flying.

It looked similar to this one, except it was black:

This picture isn't the one I had, but it was the exact samething.

OMG!... mine was a 1969 Brigestone 175 Dual Twin !!  Rare, with the carbs mounted at each end of the crank with 'induction valves' ... pretty rad. design and ran like a 'mudda'.....Twin-leading-shoe front brake and cable op. rear brake it stopped better than any bike of it's time !

Had it in 1975 and eventually swapped it for a Yamaha 200 Electric.... ( yes, electric start !, wow )

Thats cool! They were great bikes for there time.
Mine had a wierd tranny.
It was a 4 speed N-1-2-3-4-N and so on. You could shift it up or down but if you shifted past 4th it went to neutral.
Did yours do that?

this was my first bike - they were very quick in their day, and taught me a lot about cornering and falling off. ::)

this was followed very closely by my first cb750..sanity prevailed!

Spent quite bit of time on friends minibikes & my first ride ever was on a Honda z50 monkey bike, 1971 Suzuki TS185 was the first bike that was all mine, spent quite a few summers tearing up the trails & old logging roads near our house in Montana:

The Bridgestone 200 (I think) Twin I had the pleasure of working on has a lever to select between a normal shift pattern and the continuous pattern. I thought it was pretty neat!

I learned the hard way that mine had the rotary transmission.
Was riding down the road going through the gears. Wasn't keeping track of what gear I was in. Shifted past 4th into neutral, but just thought I didn't make the complete shift.
Pulled in the clutch, shifted down one more tiome and dumped the clutch.
Was in 1st gear and almost went over the bars. Scared the crap out of me.

My first street bike was a 1973 yamaha 650 that I purchased in 1974. I sold it and bought a 1971 CB750 in 1975 and have usually had at least one in the garage ever since.

Thats the bike my buddy had shipped over from Japan when he was in the Navy on the Coral Sea(aircraft carrier). He let me ride it to Santa Cruz because my bike was down and he rode his brothers Triumph 500 because I didn't like the buckhorn handlebars on it. He was used to it because he rode it all the time. I had a real good time riding that Yami.

My first was a Kawasaki G4TR 100, red like the one in this pic. 10 Speed, (High, and Low switch on the left side engine case.) Not much power, but could go anywhere.
Wish I still had it.
