What front end is this?
« on: May 09, 2010, 04:29:09 PM »
Well, my bike is a bit of a frankenbike. The PO says that the front end/bars and wheels are off of an '81 nighthawk, but I'm not too sure if I should believe him or not. I want to keep the mag wheels (though I prefer the look of spoke wheels, I know that the mag wheels are easier to maintain) but I think that lowering the bars would make the bike a lot more comfortable...I just don't know what bars will and will not fit to this front end.

Anyhow, I uploaded every pic of the bike in its current form to this album: http://img6.imageshack.us/g/dsci0283.jpg/ . Any help will be highly appreciated.

Nighthawk didnt start untill 82.  But yes parts look like a 82 nitehawk.  Gauges and the brakes.  The M/C looks like something older.   Pre 79 650.
18 grand and 18 miles dont make you a biker

Frame's a '73 CB500, engine is a '78 CB550. The master cylinder on the handlebars is actually from the '73, and is only meant for the single disc...it also doesn't fit the handlebars at all, and prevents my right mirror from being useful.

I didn't understand half of that, but the half that I did understand seems to fit.

Will I be able to fit any handlebars onto this front end? The current handlebars from the top look as if there are two separate bars, and I don't see how a different lower bar can be installed. Maybe risers or something....I have no clue. Obviously, I'm quite new to this realm of motorcycling, but I guess the only way to learn is to ask questions.

http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/461/dsci0283.jpg should suffice. If not, the album I posted in my OP http://yfrog.com/06dsci0283jx should do it for you. If I need to get pics of any other angles or anything, let me know, but they'd have to wait for tomorrow morning (night time pics=fail time.)

Looks like 4 holes on there to mount risers.. if you have 7/8 inch between the threads you are good to go..

Google shows prices ranging from 45 dollars USD and up for risers....is that accurate, or am I searching for the wrong thing? If anything, I can bug some risers off of a motorcycling friend for cheaper than that.
