Topic: Welding a nut onto a stripped case screw...will it blow up my lights/volt-reg?

If I am to be welding a nut (MiG) onto a stripped case screw, do I need to remove all of my electronics? How about onto the frame? Is there a way to avoid this, by perhaps, grounding the frame/engine case to something? Or does the ground for the welder already do this?

I remember welding on an old moped frame, and I ended up blowing my voltage regulator, my headlight, and 3 out of my 4 turn signals.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Angry rants?

Just did a little welding on my bike yesterday and had no problems.
I have actually done this more then once.
You could disconnect you battery conections as a precaution.
That is my findings anyway, someone else may have other info. that might be useful.

Have you tried cutting a slot into the face of the screw with a dremel tool and then wailing on it with an impact driver?

Disconnect the battery as a precaution as already mentioned,
connect the earth clamp as near as possible to the part you are welding.
