nice toy dave

what are those pistons? 15mm pin by any chance?  :)

an older guy came to me this weekend at the race trck and asked me about making a 400/500, told him not to even think about it without changing rods.

he was a bit pissed, was not counting on that kind of investment.... told him that it'll be cheaper than a whole motor...

Hi TG i put the pics on for Dave, as you have probably realised Dave and i race together.
I can tell you that its one hell of a quick bike, i had a go of it a few years ago
( thats not why the engine chucked a rod) and it flys !!!!. Mind you i also fell off
it at the same meeting. Yes 15mm little ends

Col got the pistons from a friend of his in holland,we had problems with them in the 400, gudgeon pin centre to top of piston slightly longer, req. thicker base gaskets (2)  to get deck hight , then slight oil leaks at base. Took them out in the end and used cb125 pistons.
I think they were ok in the 500 , col can confirm.
They are made by WISECO.

Beautiful bike,pics and pieces.The last 2 look a lot like some 750's I've seen.Sam,you were right to go w/Carillos.Anything bigger than 836cc you better put them in.Racing 836 engines I advise it.Bill

thanks dave,

Do you still got the boxes or part number of these? A higher crown should be good on a 500-4 ... Some close up photos will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

sorry TG, when I took the pistons out I gave them to Col (IOMTT9) for his 500 and they were back in their boxes, so I can't give you the part no. or pics.
I'll give Col a ring and ask him to post the details for you.

Have just spoke to Col , he will oblige.

Nice looking bike and great stuff , Colin and Dave.
But there is a man in Holland who makes reliable 400 into 500 , and fast and reliable CB500's.
You know the man already Colin.
I will try to get him to Assen at 30 may.

thanks Cole

I am starting to think that these are then custom wiseco's

searched all through the catalog and there's no such beast....

http://www.wiseco.com/Catalogs/Powersports/CompleteCatalog.pdf

from the number structure these are motorcycle 56.5mm  pistons (MO5650) with 15mm pins indeed CW15,  but the first number 7974 doesn't match anything in their stock,

TG i had the same problem when i ran out of my old 2 ringged yoshi slipper pistons.
I was looking for pistons to use, then a mate of mine had these ones ,but i think,
like you say they were special order.
The guy we get them from is a Wiseco dealer.
They are not cheap.

thanks col, not that they could be of immediate use to me as my current block is already at 57.00 and I already made a lot of adaptations to the very low height pistons I am running.

Interesting just in case I'll have to do a new block, I am at the legal limit with 57's, will have to go back to stock for next overhaul.

BTW, how much dome do these have?

I would be interesting in ordering some pistons for a CB400 four (year 1976), more precisely for road race and diameter 56.50 mm (forged).
Knowing that the original diameter for CB 400 four is 54 mm and the orinigal pin diameter is 13 mm, could you manufacture pistons with diameter 56.50 mm and diameter pin 15 mm ?
If yes, could you please explain me what is the process (price, deliverytime, and technical informations needed, aso...)

welcome to the club, but maybe introduce yourself before shooting questions?

Member Howell is running 13mm pin pistons in his 500, they're off a Honda mini bike big bore kit i believe

member ttr400 sells yoshi big bore pistons for the 400/4 too or at least used to.

xtof,
if you really want to go for 56.5mm pistons (500cc), you will need to fit different connecting rods, that is rods with a 15mm small end, also I would reccomend new cylinder liners because if you machine the standard liners they become very thin, on top of that, if you install new liners you will need to machine the engine cases to accept them, then of course, the base gasket won't fit and you will need to alter it.
So as you can see it all gets quite complicated compared to using a 460cc kit which has 13mm small ends and only requires the original liners to be bored out to suit.
Obviously it won't produce quite  the same power as the five hundred conversion but is still very acceptable.Depends on how far you want to go !
Try Kevin Mullen @ ksm enterprises, or Kevin Bidgood @TTR400, both these guys can supply this kit and both are very knowledgeable and helpful.
