Hotwire a 73 cb750?
« on: May 13, 2010, 10:23:06 AM »
Ok so i know this topic is a repost but no one ever really answered the question in the previous thread. I got everything put back together on my bike to the where i wanted to get it before trying to start the bike and well the starter button is gone. I have the wiring diagrams and everything but electrical is not my specialty and dont want to fry anything by trying to figure out how to do it, so can someone tell what i have to do down by the starter solnoid to engage it? I took a pic of it on my cell phone but i live in the boonies so i cant upload pics off my phone till i go into town cause i dont get internet on it out here.

Do you need to actually Hot-wire the ignition switch, or just bypass the start button?  Two very different things.

If you have the ignition key and all you need to do is get the starter motor to turn, just bridge the two terminals on top of the solenoid with a screwdriver.  There will be a few sparks, but it's not a problem as long as the area isn't coated in gasoline.

Or you could just use the kick-start. ;)

oh this bike hasnt ran in years and i really dont want to try and kick start it to git it running the first time, yeah i was playing w that idea of bridging the terminals but the sparks and the welding of the wire  that i used made think that i was doing something wrong.

I believe you can use a screw driver to connect the two towers on the starter solenoid. It works for me but make sure your touching the rubber handle of the screwdriver. Make starter button is also smashed asked fastbroshii I think he uses a Honda CBR right control switch.

Me on the other hand, I just say that I've "converted my bike to kick start only to reduce weight". It sounds a lot better than "I'm too broke to get a new starter button"
Its hard to be wrong when you know nothing!

There are a lot of times that even though the starter "button" may be missing it will still work. The mechanism inside needs to be pushed to make a connection. Put a Phillips screwdriver in the hole where the button was and push. You may be surprised.
