Topic: Master cylinder circlip removal tool

I bent a piece of 3/16" steel rod into the shape shown to push down the piston in the end of my 78 CB750K master cylinder so that tension was released from the circlip so that I could remove it. The trick was to not get in the way of the circlip pliers.

This worked great for me in case you can use the idea.

I'll also use the tool to hold the assembly into the bore when I re-insert the circlip.

Awesome idea! I struggled when I tried to dismantle my original MC. I hope this makes it to the FAQ, it could be quite helpful.

Have to remember that one...I used to put the lever bolt in and then a screw driver to hold the piston down ,but that only left me with one free hand.yours is a much better idea

I drilled an 1/8th inch hole through the mirror hole all the way through (who's gonna see it) and then stuck a 1/16th nail through the hold the piston down. Plenty of room to maneuver in there with just a small nail sticking in from where the mirror screws in. FWIW. For putting the cir-clip back in I machined a piece of nylon just big enough to fit in the hole to push the cir-clip down with a hole in the business end of the nylon the size of the piston. One whack with a rubber mallet and the cir-clip is in.
