my own toy behaved well, another 4th place, missed the podium by just a couple of seconds after a race long battle with a friend, good fun.

We had some UK guys, John Cronshaw was here as well as Bob Dixon with his 500 Laverda,

we have a long break now till next race in july, time to work on my airbox project, fit an RD350 fork with cartridges and maybe a 650 sump and primary chain tensioner. should keep me busy.

Tough luck Riccardo, what was the cause of your problem? Or should I ask.  ::)

TG, didn't you tell me there was some issue with those RD forks?

he told me he might have over revved, he might have to tear the engine appart to know

the only issue with tht RD forks was lack of time....

I dont like the fact that it has only through holes for the axle in the legs, no means of clamping on the axle,

but other than that they are a few kilos lighter than the stock ones and have double teflon bushings,

so should be an improvement

Last weekend I've learnt to always double check valve-piston clearance after cam timing! A missed gear and ex valves high five pistons, luckily I only bent them so not a lot of money to repair the engine (I'm thinking on cyclex super flow valves, are they ok? plus the aluminium valve retainer)

A friend of Piero Laverda lent us his Formula 500, and the guy in the first picture crash it just after I ended my turn. Not a lot of damage even it this case, but not a nice thing to do. He says that he braked on some dirty stuff and the bike suddendly fell down...

Not a great weekend but I've learned a lot on how building a race bike, how to drive it and how to choose an endurance pilot among your friends  ;D

now, thinking of it, Howell had a bizarre valve bending story due to material coming off the fiberglass tank and sticking to the guides.... inlets though.

check if they are free in any case.

to do a proper job of checking valve clearance mount just one set with weak springs you can push by hand

Good result TG.
Why do you have your seat so high ?
Is it allowed to have a airbox on a classic racer ?

Indeed , material from the fibreglass tank was the cause of our inlet valve problems.
Don't use a fibreglass tank with modern or race fuels !!!!!!
But we had enough valve to piston clearance.

Thanks howell, I think I can now say that it took three years and some 20 races to really feel good on the bike, my first race  in this track i was doing 1:37's, I was down to 1:29'-1:28's all of last race. nice satisfaction.

Seat? I am 1.90m tall, need a bit of room for my legs to bend :)

Nothing in our rulebook says that you cant put an airbox and those bikes came with one stock. not that the one i am building is going to like like the stock one...

Using a RD350 YPVS fork is a big improvement , but not only the fork , very important is also the right springs , oil viscosity and oillevel and the right setup of the dampervalves.
Our fork is working very well , but the setup is done by a skilled mechanic from YSS shocks Europe.

Do you have any detailed pictures? I am considering a fork upgrade for my CB500K0, but I don't have any rule restrictions (road bike, maybe occasional track day),
but I would like maintain the bike as "period correct" as feasible. I already have 18" GPZ305 (or optionally 19" 440LTD) front wheel so I might just swap EX500 (GPZ500S) 36mm forks and try to disguise the triple trees/yokes as much as possible and use 36mm telefix clip-ons I have waiting. Retrofitting cartridge internals also sounds very appealing...

detailed pictures of what exactly? If you are not limited by racing rules to a 35mm fork, then 36 will still look pretty period IMHO and be more rigid.

I was mainly interested on the RD350 front axle setup and also brakes. But I probably go GPZ route and use also brakes from Kawa. (Hmm... I also waiting for set of KZ650 mikunis, looks like my CB is slowly turning into a Kawasaki)

I have been searching info about retrofitting cartridges to 35-39mm forks but really haven't found anything usefully yet. Maybe I just have buy a set of cbr600f2('94 only) or f3 41mm cartridge forks and see how the internals look like.

Know this one TG?

Sam. ;)
yep, massimo, the shop owner is a good friend.

it's a pretty stock bike other than the Menani tank and seat. sat on it and the tank is not that comfy, but sure good looking.
