kinda looks like the bores were not perpendicular to the crank?
maybe bigbore installed by honing only,,?

Nice looking. Frame them...don't go near an engine install... unless you run on limited schedule.

They are not forged, should live longer than forged aluminum rods..

Myself I would take the goldenrids over the forged aluminum ones of that time. I will post more info later.

I hope Nitrohunter chimes in on this thread.

For an interesting read, go to the BME Rods website.. Bill Miller Engineering. pretty interesting read of what forged aluminum rods are capable of...

I don't know for sure but I might suspect billet is forged to begin with?? It's not like aluminum is made from bauxite or anything

I never broke a Golden Rod - until I rattled the motor & broke other stuff first.
The RC guys had genuine surprise at hearing of a breakage - until I explained the circumstance. It was thier contention that those rods should outlast the bike.
I've used them in several motors and used to regularly twist the daylights out of them. I knew another local guy who had at least 10,000 miles on his Cobra motor with no issues, but he moved so I don't know the end life result.
I can tell you that I would have them checked for straitness and both ends for being round.
I have resized lots of BME's for the dragster (a no budget team but with a decent downhill slide on famous guy's parts) but haven't yet done my golden rods, drilling & tapping those bearing locator pins for jacking bolts might suck, then there's milling .002 off the cerations of both cap & rod. As long as the bolts thread in easily (BY HAND) to an assembled unit, the parting line hasn't been pounded apart by detonation and you are OK...

1) This may sound like it's from a Goldenrod newby, and it is... IF a set of Goldenrods is mounted on a CB750 crank, BUT it looks like the rods appear to be only slightly used, is it safe to remove the bolts without expecting to have to replace them?

2) Where do I get a socket to fit these suckers???

You likely have it in your toolbox.

It's just a standard 12 point socket - but the bolt uses all 12 points.

No, now THAT's being a showoff.

Now, since I'm poor and my crappy old rods are somewhat used, how's about a straight answer on the safety of reusing the rod bolts? Any way to test them for usability?

And Doctor_D, thanks for the info. I shoulda checked first but didn't think about checking out my 12-point sockets since I try to never use them.
