So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Every breed has a story about an attack.
We had a St.Bernard that helped teach my girls to walk, they would hold onto him and walk around him while he stood like a statue. Our golden was, but the big sweetie was our 230 lb english mastiff. Aside from the transport problems when he got sick and old, what a great dog. We took him to the vet once in a 28 foot car trailer because he could walk into the rear ramp door. He hated to leave our property, they were bred to guard castles and love to stay home.

Cant say I much care for short hair breeds like that. Seen too much bad from rotts and pits and dobermans. Just seem to be untrustworthy. I know I am sure someone will jump on me about that and go off on a tangent about proper training and this and that and how they have never scene one attack anybody and how it was the sweetest dog they had.
Good for them. I HAVE seen rotts attack. Even people they have known a long time.
Not only that, but I don't have the time to blow trying to train a dog like that when I can get a something like a husky or malamute which can learn on the fly and rarely attack unless provoked intentionally. I feel some dog breeds ARE better than others. I would never hesitate to put a child with a siberian husky. Might have something to do with the fact I grew up with 4 of them and aside from 1 just being kinda dumb, they were all like babysitters on 4 legs. Same with the Cocker I had when young. That dog saved my can from a mama raccoon.

I guess my point is if someone wants a dog like a rott, then they better be prepared for potential issues and some dogs are better than others, especially for families.

Just my opinion.

the only dog i have ever been bit by was a siberian husky, when i was 10. it was my next door neighbor's dog, and i was friends with him. however, one day he lunged up and chomped my neck. came 1/8" or so from my jugular. siberian huskies are the only breed i really am wary of.

I've yet to meet someone that will believe their lovable pet is territorial, and would bite a stranger, but I did Land Survey work for many years, and have seen breeds of all sizes come to the door or fence, with hair raised, teeth showing ready to let you know where you stand, then the owner comes to the door, and instantly the dog turns into a tail wagging marsh mellow before it's master see's it's dark side.
Of course, this is when the owner say's "Oh he's just a baby." and chuckles at our reluctance to approach the dog. I've seen this scenario repeat it's self in urban and rural settings over, and over, and over again.  Any dog will bite a stranger, that's why the mailman carry's pepper spray. The dog may not bite today, but he may bite tomorrow.
Now before anyone get's all uppity, and thinks I don't like dogs, I'd like to make it clear that I love dogs, have had several, but wont have another one without a fenced in yard to provide it with the space a four legged animal should have.

Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

My white German shepherd is very territorial. You have to be introduced properly to him, and he'll be fine. I'm wary of him any other way. You have to be completely confident and stern with him as well. But, that is the way I want it to be. I'm away from home almost 6 months out of the year, and I want my wife some company/protection. You get through the dog and she'll have a 12ga waiting for you.

My female shepherd on the other hand will simply lick you to death :D

I suppose bottom line is a dog acts as it is raised. But just like people, you will have some that will keep their own mind no matter what.

i think that dogs have instincts that are in control when they are not submitting to humans...... i had the best trained amstaff when she was with me... but when my freinds took her out she was more aggressive and now she lives with my parents and barely listens..... i miss that dog
