First 100 miles after the build.

After 7 long months of trying to find time to work on my bike,its done(except body work)and I gotta tell ya,there is nothing like a fresh top end,yeah the pipe helps,truly amazing.My bike ran very good before the tear down but what a difference.I am in love with my bike all over again.I took her easy on seating the rings,what is the recommended amount of miles?RPM's?I feel like I am on a modern bike it runs so good.

Congratulations man!  Do you have a build thread link?  Pics?  I ran a search here of "engine break in" and got loads of info.  Since you have already put 100 miles on her, change the oil, continue to vary rpms and don't push her too hard...yet.  You are at the 100 mile mark which seems to be about when you can start pushing her, just not all at once.  Read up on these:

Excellent.I have not revved over 5500 yet,I ride to work which is exactly 15 minutes on the freeway,70 mph is the top spd past bellingham on I-5,I hum along at about 4800 RPM's,oil pressure perfect.It feels like it just wants to go,even at freeway speeds it feels as if it wants to go faster,feels strong.I will continue to baby it for the next couple o hundred.My build is project greasy.Not done but quite rideable.

Start getting the revs up but do it easily in lower gears. Don't just hammer it yet.

OK,now I am at about 700 miles and I revved it a bit on a recent ride.I am now weeping oil and when I take off from a stop I see puffs of smoke.Sh*t.If I ride away very smooth like a grandma you dont notice any smoke,but if I take off quickly,its there.Bumms me out.Thing is,I did a compression check and its perfect,all 4 spot on at 150psi.My buddy says its a carb issue.?It is rich.It starts right away,runs great,but now it smokes a lil at rest.

What colour is the smoke? That will tell you if its the rings not seating right. Ive always broken an engine in by short burst of high revs to seat the rings. By keeping it under 5500 rpm for so long there is a potential for them not to have seated properly. I hope thats not the case. Where is the oil leaking from?

head gasket.I get so many opinions and I have three manuals so I take all that info and work with it.I thought I was doing the right thing.What now?Now that I have a frame kit I have access to the head.

A black smoke would be rich,most noticeable under hard acceleration,blue would probably be oil and a white smoke early after start up would probably be condensation or moisture in the pipe.

OK Old School Trick, since I am old. Hold or tape a white piece of paper behind the exhaust(s). Rev it or do whatever makes the smoke. Oil will leave very distinct splotches on the paper.

I will try that,I am pretty sure its oil.Dammit.What to do,pull the head and rehone?Rings are new,are they shot?
