1975 Moto Guzzi Something something something............
« on: May 12, 2010, 08:51:04 AM »
Somebody gave me a 1975 Guzzi for free.  :o   I went to look at it this morning and naturally it has a, uh, patina.....  At this point, I don't even know what model it is but after some googling, I think that it is an 850t.  He says it's a 750 but I can't believe him since it's been so long.  Where can I get parts for this old girl?  It has been sitting outside for the last 5+ years and it won't even roll due to the rotors being rusted.  The motor spins, though.  I'll need fork tubes, that's for sure, all the cables, and maybe the calipers are good.  The rotors look turnable.  It's too soon to tell just what I need.  I can go to nursing school and restore a Guzzi at the same time, right?  I'll have plenty of time?

Is there anyone here that's into Guzzis and needs a new friend? ;D

it's likely an ambassador or eldorado, though i can't remember what year they switched. if it's cruiser-like, that's the case. most of the US models were.

They made 750's too in 1975, so it might be.

Parts are expensive.
Rings are known to wear fast, but relatively cheap to fix in that department.
Stable, comfortable, and very cool.
No outstanding traits, but overall just great bikes.
Sound awesome.
Heavy.
Owner must have mechanical knowledge. ;D

Parts are expensive.Money spent over a long period of time doesn't actually exist, right?
Rings are known to wear fast, but relatively cheap to fix in that department.Cheap and easy from the looks of it.
Stable, comfortable, and very cool. The tanks looks like an 850 from what I can find on google
No outstanding traits, but overall just great bikes.I like the obscurity of them
Sound awesome.I just want to hear the thing wide open
Heavy.Whatevs
Owner must have mechanical knowledge. ;D I can just fire it up after sitting for years outside right?
Wish me luck guys.  It'll be fun just to get it in to my shop and break some frozen bolts off.  I'm going to order a bunch of easy-outs today along with a bunch of carbide drills.  ;D ;D ;D

I'll get pic up when I get the bike.  I have to set a time with this guy so I can pick it up.  It'll be this weekend.

The 750s have chrome-lined cylinders that are known to peel when setting for a long time.  I don't know about the 850s........

I think you are going to love it. I adore 70's and 80's Guzzis.

With a name like "Moto Guzzi" how can you possibly go wrong?

The baddest sounding bike I have EVER heard was an 850 Le Mans with straight pipes. The motor is fantastic, looks like a pump from a Battleship (what it would pump..I have no idea!) and the shaft drive is nice and unobtrusive. They have some balls.

I met a guy at a bar one time. He was talking very lovingly about his Guzzi. At one point, I asked him why he was riding a Yamaha 750-3. He told me "The Yamaha is a good bike, its reliable, and good for just getting around on, but the Moto Guzzi has a soul."
I understood immediately.

nice bikes, made for long distance hi speed cruising, there are a few specialty shops with a web presence, honda tried their hand at a guzzi like engined bike, cx500,cx650,even had a cxturbo.
